The article about that aroused keen interest among visitors. The material was based on a study conducted by the administration of the Hi-Tech Park in May 2010 among its residents. We have already found out which universities supply most of the personnel to our IT companies, and now it's time to delve into the topic and find out which faculties, according to the HTP, prepare the best specialists. It goes without saying that the above statistics do not mean that you can study to become a business analyst only in such and such a specific place, or such and such a faculty is “good” and such and such is “bad” - the future of a specialist always depends primarily on himself and his desire to learn. Nevertheless, this information is quite interesting and allows us to analyze the current situation in our education. “One of the objectives of the study for us was not only to understand "Who trains personnel for the Hi-Tech Park?", but also to determine, together with the heads of our companies, the best faculties that train specialized IT specialists,- says the deputy director of administration of the HTP Martinkevich Alexander Mikhailovich. – This is important for two reasons. First, today the Hi-Tech Park actively cooperates with technical universities and invests real money in opening joint laboratories, conducting trainings for teachers, and educating students. By investing money, our companies would like to receive a guaranteed income in the form of trained specialists. It's like on financial market there are the most profitable instruments. The results of the survey made it possible to determine the best faculties in terms of training various specialists: system architects, system analysts, etc. Secondly, the information received was extremely important as input data for a new improvement project educational standards by specialty higher education taking into account the new positions of specialists employed in the development, implementation and maintenance of information systems and technologies included in the ESKD. An example is a technical writer. Not a single university trains such specialists today. However, the HTP alone in 2010 will require at least 60 technical writers. It was necessary to determine in which university to begin their training. Proposals were made to do this on the basis of technical faculties. But the survey showed that the vast majority of our companies (48% of those surveyed) believe that the best technical writers come from MSLU graduates. Therefore, at present, with the help of the experts of the Park, a draft program for the training of technical writers is being developed, which will soon appear at the Faculty of Intercultural Communications of MSLU” .

Let's move on to the survey results. Let's start with the top positions of the production cycle itself, which require the deepest knowledge and good preparation.

The undisputed leader in this segment is the faculty applied mathematics and informatics of BSU. And competent team leaders, and smart project managers, and good system architects, according to the interviewed representatives of companies, come out first of all from the walls of the FPMI. FPMI, jokingly referred to by students as the “Lost Youth Faculty” due to its rather complex course program, is generally almost always at the top of the preference lists of companies, as the data show. As, however, and the Faculty of Computer Networks and Systems of BSUIR. It is followed by FITU from the same BSUIR and FITR from BNTU. It is worth noting that the latter is the only faculty in the lists for top positions not from BSU or BSUIR. The rating of other faculties of BSU is surprisingly low - only Mekhmat gets into the top five, and the same faculty of radiophysics and electronics is mentioned sporadically. Team Leader
1 BSU FPMI 28,17%
2 BSUIR KSIS 23,94%
3 BSUIR FITU 14,08%
4 BNTU FITR 9,86%
5 BSU MMF 5,63%
6 BSUIR IEF 5,63%
7 BSU FR&E 4,23%

project manager

1 BSU FPMI 31,88%
2 BSUIR KSIS 18,84%
3 BNTU FITR 11,59%
4 BSUIR FITU 8,70%

System architect

1 BSU FPMI 31,03%
2 BSUIR KSIS 25,86%
3 BSUIR FITU 13,79%
4 BNTU FITR 6,90%
5 BSU MMF 6,90%
6 BSUIR IEF 3,45%

All the same leaders in the market of specialists of the "middle" level in the hierarchy, in particular in the most massive class of software engineers, as well as system analysts.

Software Engineer
1 BSU FPMI 23,45%
2 BSUIR KSIS 23,45%
3 BSUIR FITU 15,86%
4 BNTU FITR 12,41%
5 BSU MMF 8,28%

Systems Analyst

1 BSU FPMI 26,23%
2 BSUIR KSIS 21,31%
3 BSUIR FITU 18,03%
4 BNTU FITR 8,20%
5 BSU MMF 6,56%
6 BSUIR IEF 4,92%

Our business analysts are also graduates of the main technical faculties, since they actually come from the circle of programmers who, due to the interest of the market and their own worldview, had to retrain themselves to some extent. Business analyst

1 BSU FPMI 26,53%
2 BSUIR FITU 14,29%
3 BSUIR IEF 14,29%
4 BSUIR KSIS 12,24%
5 BSU MMF 10,20%
6 BNTU FITR 8,16%

But, as for QA engineers, here the Faculty of Information Technology and Robotics of BNTU burst into the lead somewhat unexpectedly. KSiS and FPMI rolled back to third and fourth place, respectively. QA engineer

1 BNTU FITR 22,45%
2 BSUIR FITU 18,37%
3 BSUIR KSIS 18,37%

5 BSUIR FRE 4,08%
6 BSUIR FKP 4,08%
7 BSU MMF 4,08%
8 BSUIR IEF 4,08%

Another surprise is the popularity of mekhmat for web designers. It is clear that now every second person who has installed Photoshop or an illustrator automatically considers himself a designer, and far from all, even good, specialists working in the industry have a profile education, but still, why the Mekhmat remains a mystery. The second place rightfully belongs to the Faculty of Design of the Academy of Arts. web designer

1 BSU MMF 16,13%
2 BGAI f design 12,90%
3 BSU FPMI 9,68%

6 BSUIR KSIS 9,68%
7 BNTU FITR 6,45%

Not developers

For the training of specialists not directly related to software development, we are primarily responsible for "inyaz". It is the IT sector, as a fairly rich industry, that increasingly attracts graduates with translation diplomas. Accordingly, companies are oriented primarily to MSLU as a source of technical writers and marketing managers. Our industry is primarily focused on the US markets and Western Europe, which means that companies need people with high-quality language, which is enough not only to “explain”, but also to do it in good English or German. Thus, to some extent, justifying higher rates compared to, for example, China, for example, where they often do not bother about the literary nature of their letters, documentation, and websites. If we talk about other IT specialties, then the rankings of universities where they are trained in the best way look like this:

Software Testing Specialist
1 BSUIR FITU 16,67%
2 BNTU FITR 16,67%
3 BSU FPMI 14,10%
4 BSUIR KSIS 14,10%

6 BSUIR IEF 6,41%

1 BSUIR KSIS 20,00%

3 BSUIR FITU 13,33%
4 BNTU FITR 11,67%
5 BSU MMF 11,67%
6 BSUIR IEF 6,67%

Software Maintenance Specialist

1 BSUIR KSIS 16,07%
2 BSU FPMI 14,29%
3 BSUIR FITU 14,29%
4 BNTU FITR 10,71%
5 BSUIR FKP 8,93%
6 BSU MMF 5,36%

Conclusion

In general, Belarusian companies prefer to see in their ranks in almost all positions, first of all, graduates of three or four leading faculties - FPMI BSU, KSiS and FITU BSUIR, as well as FITR BNTU. The image of the main forges of intelligent IT specialists of the first two of the above faculties is beyond doubt so much that, for example, they want to see graduates from the FPMI even as marketing managers, although, frankly, in order to be engaged in sales and marketing, it is not at all necessary to study higher mathematics for five years. Somewhat surprising is the low level of trust and the small amount of hopes for the other faculties of the natural profile of BSU: the Faculty of Physics and the Faculty of Radiophysics and Electronics are found in the top lists only occasionally. However, software development will not be conducted by the diploma itself, and, unfortunately, there are no guarantees that the same representative of FPMI or KSIS will become an intelligent programmer or system analyst. Unfortunately, the quality of students and graduates of even one faculty fluctuates quite strongly in our country.

The Faculty of Engineering and Economics was founded in 1994. Today it is educational and science Center with over 1300 students. The faculty has 115 teachers, including 3 professors (of which one is a doctor of science) and 36 associate professors (of which 34 are candidates of science).

90% of future IT professionals dine at the nearby Neighbors store. Recently, due to the financial crisis, the quality of food and the range of goods have fallen sharply, but the Isites do not lose faith in better times.

As a result of the demolition of two stalls near the fourth building, where you could always buy hamburgers, pasties and cheap cigarettes, queues at the Neighbors store increased by an average of one and a half times

The salesgirls at the Neighbors have university break schedules to be ready for an attack.
