How to buy all the necessary stationery for a first grader and not forget anything? Use our list! Working in collaboration with parent committees and simply experienced parents, we studied the school needs of first-graders. The result was a list of school stationery supplies that are usually needed to start studying.

The White Rabbit has a lot of stationery in stock, come to the stores!

Backpack, shoe bag and pencil case

Let's start filling our backpack for school. But before we start, we need the backpack itself! Backpacks are often sold with filling, and may already include some necessary school supplies that you will not have to buy additionally. Therefore, we advise you to first choose a backpack.

Since it was proven that a briefcase is harmful to your posture, a backpack is indispensable

We fill the pencil case. Writing instruments.

A first-grader's pencil case must contain:

  • Pens. 2 blue pens, one green pen. It’s better to learn to write with ballpoint pens, they develop your hand better, gel pens are too easy, and it’s easier to make blots. We recommend pens and pencils with a triangular grip. This shape helps the young schoolchild to hold a pen or pencil correctly.
  • Plain pencils of medium hardness HB or B. Without an eraser at the end of the pencil, they are usually of poor quality and impractical.
  • Wooden ruler, 20 cm
  • Eraser. Larger so that it fits more comfortably in your hand.
  • Sharpener with container

Writing utensils, there is nothing to do at school without them!

For classroom use

For classroom activities you will need:

  • Notebooks
    • per cage 12l - 5 pieces
    • large checkered 12l - 2 pieces
    • in an oblique ruler 12 l - 2 pieces
    • in a regular line - you may also need it (“copybook”)
The minimum set of notebooks is indicated; after you find out which types you will need more, you can purchase more. It is better to take monochromatic notebooks; bright pictures distract younger students. Pay attention to the quality of the paper, it should not be sparkling white, it is hard on the eyes. Paper that is too dark looks untidy. The line should be clear and noticeable.
  • Folder for notebooks. Without a folder, notebooks will wrinkle and spoil in your backpack.
  • Bookend
  • Covers for notebooks. In quantities of 10–15 pieces, they will come in handy.
  • It is better to choose covers for textbooks with textbooks! If you know the amount of benefits for which the child will study, you can purchase covers in advance.
  • Bookmarks. Buy ready-made ones or attach ribbons to textbooks yourself.

Every teacher uses counting material. It is better to check with the teacher what specific counting materials are needed. Counting sticks are usually a must. All types of counting materials:

  • Counting sticks
  • ABAC line
  • Wooden set “Learn to count”
  • Fan of letters, numbers
  • Box of letters, syllables and counts

High-quality counting materials are pleasant to hold in your hands

For drawing lessons

Drawing lessons use a standard set of pencils and paints, you can safely buy them; in first grade you will need everything:

  • Sketchbook, 20 or 40 sheets. Or a folder for watercolors, you can remove sheets from it. Who likes it more?
  • Colored pencils, 12 colors
  • Watercolor honey paints 12 colors
  • Gouache 12 colors
  • Belka brushes - No. 3, No. 5 and No. 9 or a set of brushes
  • Sippy cup
  • Apron with sleeves

Classic watercolor paints will never lose popularity

For labor lessons

And of course, supplies for your favorite lessons, where you can make something interesting:

  • Set of colored paper. There are many options for the number of sheets, with matte or glossy paper, double-sided paper. Usually you need the simplest one.
  • Set of colored cardboard
  • White cardboard
  • Scissors with rounded ends
  • Glue stick
  • Plasticine. The optimal number of colors is 12
  • Modeling board and stacks
  • Folder for work. Here you can conveniently put all the supplies for labor lessons so as not to stain the rest of the contents of the backpack.

Sorry, but the red color couldn’t resist and came out :)

It can be useful

The following accessories are not required but may be helpful.

  • Timetable
  • Diary. Although a diary is considered the main attribute of a schoolchild, it is often not required in the first grade. Check with the school.
  • Chest wallet for passes and small items
  • An additional pencil case is a tube for pencils. If the folder for labor lessons does not have a specially designated place for pencils, it is convenient to take a tube so as not to stain your backpack and books. Some pencils are initially sold in a tube, which is convenient.

Now let's take a closer look at how to choose a pen for a child.

What should you pay special attention to when choosing writing instruments?

1. Case size and shape

The triangular shape of the grip area around the handle with the rubber coated fingers is considered convenient.

This shape and coating ensure a comfortable and, most importantly, correct position of the fingers while writing. It prevents slipping and tension.

Whether a child is comfortable or not can be determined by the characteristic marks on the fingers after writing. Their presence indicates that the handle was not selected correctly.

Also, the handle should not be too thick or too thin. Both are equally inconvenient for writing.

The length of the body must be at least 13 cm. It should not be heavy. Otherwise, the child will have to make extra efforts when writing, and this will cause his fingers to get tired.

2. Ink

In lower grades, it is recommended to use ballpoint pens. Make sure that the pen writes easily, softly, without additional pressure. It should ensure good sliding on a sheet of paper at any angle of the hand.

Oil-based ink pens work well for young children.

It is also worth paying attention to the fact that the ink must dry quickly on the paper so as not to smear. This is especially important when writing with your left hand.

Good ink is easily washed off and washed from leather and fabric.

From an economic point of view, it is better to buy a pen with replaceable refills.

3. Security

The pen cap must be ventilated. If the baby suddenly swallows the cap, parents will have time to help him.

4. Design

Stationery design is very important for children. If the child likes the pen, he will become interested in using it. And this will create a positive attitude in studying.

As for the pencil, it should have a thick, soft lead that does not scratch the paper, but leaves a bright mark without much effort. Also, the pencil should not press through the paper and crumble, but should be easily erased with an eraser.

The new school year is approaching. Is your child ready for his first day of school? By preparing your child for the first day of school, you can help him succeed. As with most different events in our lives, the more we prepare, the better the outcome will be. The following practical tips can help get your child's school year off to a good start:

1. Educational supplies. You should purchase your school supplies before the school year starts. Many stores have lists of supplies that a child should have.

2. Clothes. Let your child choose what clothes he or she will wear on his first day of school in advance. A favorite outfit will help your child feel calmer and more ready for the challenges of the new school year. In addition, this way you can avoid being late as a result of the morning rush.

3. Let your child read all summer long. Reading is an important skill for learning. Like all skills, reading (especially in the beginning) is a forgettable skill. Your child should have plenty of time to practice this skill. Enroll your child in a reading club at your nearest library for the summer. Many schools offer a list of recommended summer reading (some even have required reading). You should head to the library every day so your child can choose new reading material. Set aside time every day to read.

4. Learn new words every day. Having a good vocabulary is one of the main indicators of success in school. The more words your child knows and the more fluently he speaks them, the more likely he is to do well in school. So post new words every day, perhaps on a family bulletin board or on the refrigerator. Have your child look up the meaning of these words in a dictionary or online. Have each family member use the word in a sentence at dinner. Make these words permanent in your family vocabulary.

5. Act out scenes. Play the role of the teacher, and let your child play the role of the student. Make sure your child knows classroom rules, such as raising their hand to answer a question, helping the teacher hand out material, or being quiet when asked. You should also explore different situations that may be bothering your child. For example, what should he do if someone is rude to him? What should he do if the teacher asks him a question and he doesn’t know what to answer? Once you are familiar with all the issues that concern him, provide him with solutions to the problems and also practice solving these issues through role-playing games.

Start implementing these five strategies today. They will help you better prepare your child for the first day of school, as well as instill confidence and problem-solving solutions that will help him succeed in school.
